"HERVermont is a passionate group of young women determined to raise the bar for reproductive justice. They are using their art and their voices to inform people about the harm that has been done. I believe they will play a part in making sure we don’t repeat past injustices," - Community Member

What is HERVermont?

HERVermont is an organization with the goal of spreading awareness and creating cultural change surrounding Reproductive Justice. Reproductive Justice is defined as "the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities,” by SisterSong, a BIPOC-women led Reproductive Justice Organization. To us, Reproductive Justice includes history, reproductive rights, and a holistic approach to health that is available to all. It is about access, not choice.

We believe that everybody should have access to knowledge about their bodies and be able to make educated choices about their health. In today's world, our healthcare is heavily politicized, and alternative health methods receive less acknowledgement in a world of allopathic medicine and pharmaceuticals.

The United States has a complex history of reproductive care and rights that has been suppressed and hidden. It is our goal to pass on this knowledge with the aim that others can share it, gain deeper understanding about the political climate around healthcare, and the stigma and restrictions on the female body today. We aim to know the places we have come from, and interpret where we may go in the future.

We recognize that reproductive injustice has and does unequally affect people of marginalized communities, in ways such as current laws like the Tampon Tax, and effects of eugenics and sterilization of the past, which continue to influence lives today. Thus we strive towards intersectional activism and amplifying the voices of people of marginalized communities. It is our overarching goal as HERVermont to unite people, spread awareness about issues both past and present, and share knowledge that is hidden in mainstream media. Overall, we hope to fuel each person on their journey towards better healthcare, wellness, and happiness.
